How the Pragmatic Training web site was built and who is responsible for it.

Colophon

The current incarnation of Pragmatic Training web site was designed and built in May through August 2006 by Lloyd Borrett of Chaordent.

Tools

Adobe Illustrator CS2 and Adobe PhotoShop CS2 were used to build the graphics for the web site.

NoteTab Pro was used as the text editor to write the content.

TopStyle Pro was used as the CSS editor.

The starting point for the design of Pragmatic Training web site was the Mollio template layout Type C variation by Pete Ottery. This CSS based tableless template was ported to Etomite, modified to meet our requirements, plus made more cross-platform browser friendly. And then the real work began!

Platform

Pragmatic Training web site runs using the Etomite Content Management System, an open source solution released under the GNU license scheme. Etomite is a CMS solution built using the PHP scripting language with MySQL for the database.

Several Etomite snippets were created or adapted to generate various elements of the web pages, e.g. the page crumbs, various menus, page specific meta tags, select images etc. Snippets are also used to generate pages from the documents database, e.g. site map, web links, testimonials, promotions etc.

The phpBB bulletin board package is used for the forums. A number of Etomite snippets pick up content from the phpBB forums to create pages and/or page elements for the main web site pages. The Articles, Frequently Asked Questions, Downloads and Recent Announcements pages are all created this way.

Pragmatic Training web site is hosted by JaguarPC on servers running the Linux operating system, using the Apache web server.

Web Standards

Pragmatic Training web site respects W3C standards. The web site is currently validated to XHTML 1.0 Strict with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).

User Information

Pragmatic Training web site is optimised for a screen resolution of 1024x800 or higher, with web browsers MS Internet Explorer 6.0 or later, or Mozilla Firefox 1.0 or later.
