CHC40208 - Certificate IV in Home and Community Care

Course Objectives
The nationally recognised CHC40208 — Certificate IV in Home and Community Care course is for people who are seeking career opportunities in train, support and promote independence and community participation, as part of activities and programs in a variety of home and community care settings.
These workers may report to service managers and liaise with professionals and other service workers, and may be required to supervise or coordinate a limited number of other workers.
Career Opportunities
Career opportunities include Assistant Coordinator, Assistant Team Leader, Care Team Leader, Community House Worker, In-home Respite Carer, Personal Care Worker, Senior Community Worker, Service Coordinator, Support Worker or Transport Coordinator.
Course Content / Structure
A literacy and numeracy test applies to all Pragmatic Training qualifications courses.  People with disabilities are encouraged to apply. 
Candidates must also be recognised as competent, through a recognised training program or recognition process, in the prerequisite units** (listed below) from CHC30308 Certificate III in Home and Community Care (or equivalent).
This course comprises 6 compulsory core units and 9 electives units*.  Competency is required in all 15 units.

Assessment
Assessment is competency based and can include written papers, classroom activities, verbal presentations and the demonstration of work-based competencies.
Industry Placement
If students are not currently working in the industry, 160 placement hours must be undertaken to successfully complete this course.
Entry Requirements
  Essential requirements are:
- A literacy and numeracy test is required before commencement of all Pragmatic Training qualification courses.
        -  Interview process and a strong interest in this work is required.    
        -  Successful applicants must provide a current Police Check
 
Skills Recognition — Exemptions/Transfers
Students may be eligible for exemptions/transfers on the basis of previous qualifications.
Qualification
As part of the Australian Qualifications Framework this program is nationally recognised. On successful completion students will be awarded the Certificate IV in Home and Community Care.
